Golden Eagles head to UT Martin to wrap up regular season

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – With a sweep against Austin Peay under its belt, the Tennessee Tech softball team will head to UT Martin Saturday to wrap up its 2011 regular season.

With its sweep of the Lady Govs this past weekend, TTU now stands one win ahead of Murray State for the final spot in the Ohio Valley Conference Tournament.
 
Entering this weekend, TTU owns a 40-21 all-time record against the Skyhawks, with UT Martin winning their last encounter during the 2010 OVC Tournament, 2-1. 
 
UT Martin has amassed a 30-21 record on the season, and sits in third place in the OVC standings with a mark of 17-9. The Skyhawks have three players with at least 30 RBI on the season including Jenny Bain, who has driven in a team-leading 36 runs. Chelsea Jones has paced UT Martin in the circle as she has notched 14 wins on the season, while striking out 170 batters.
 
In Tech's sweep over APSU, Holly Thomas earned a pair of victories, which included a three-hit shutout. Whitney Cummings and Kaliegh Gates each posted a home run and a team-leading four RBI in the series, while Brittney Spalding scored a team-high five runs.
 
Murray State, who sits a half game back of the Golden Eagles, closes out it 2011 season with a three-game series at Jacksonville State. JSU currently sits second in the OVC standings with a 20-7 conference record.
