Thomas pitches and powers Tech past Morehead State

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was a one woman show in the rubber game of the three-game series between Tennessee Tech and Morehead State, as Holly Thomas delivered both in the circle and at the plate in TTU's 1-0 victory.

Game three of the series featured a rematch between game one starters Thomas and Kelcey McMurray, with the same result as Thomas pitched her way to second complete game victory in as many days.

Both starters looked sharp through the first four innings, as both teams were held scoreless with a combined five hits. Tech would strike first in the bottom of the fifth as Thomas crushed her first home run of the season to left center to give Tech the 1-0 lead.

Morehead State would not go quietly as it loaded the bases in the sixth with one out. Thomas induced a pair of ground-outs, including a force out at the plate, to maintain the one-run lead.

MSU kept the pressure up in the seventh as it loaded the bases with two outs, using three walks, but Thomas held firm as Kayla Ashbrook flied out to right field to end the game.

Thomas improved to 13-8 on the season, as she gave up just four hits while striking out four. McMurray was saddled with the loss as she fell to 10-10, giving up three hits, including the solo home run to Thomas.

Tech (18-24, 10-14 OVC) hits the road for a trio of non-conference games, beginning Wednesday against Lipsomb. The opening pitch is slated for 5 p.m.
