COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Just as the previous two games between the softball teams of Tennessee Tech and Tennessee State went, hitting was at a premium. However, it was TSU that came out on top this time as the Tigers dealt the Golden Eagles a 4-1 loss.
The bulk of the games scoring came in the third inning as four
of the game's five runs were scored.
The Tigers scored all three of their third-inning runs with
two outs, using a solo home run off the bat of Tedra Alford to left
center, and a two-run double from Jill Gardner, to put TSU in front
3-0.
Tech responded in the bottom of the inning as senior Lacie
Coquerille drove in sophomore Melody
Christian to cut into the Tiger lead at 3-1.
TSU's Caitlin Eaton circled the wagons as she allowed just
three Tech base runners in the final four innings en route to the
Tigers 4-1 win.
Eaton improved to 4-6 on the season, while junior Holly Thomas was
saddled with the loss, falling to 6-3 on the season. Thomas gave up
four runs, all of which were earned, while striking out six.
Tech (9-8, 2-1 OVC) hosts a doubleheader against Tennessee
Wesleyan Tuesday, with the first game slated at 3 p.m.
