Huskers keep Golden Eagle bats in check as Tech falls

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle softball team wrapped up the Sleep Inn Classic with a 6-0 loss to the Nebraska Huskers. In their first meeting two days ago the Huskers beat the Golden Eagles 4-3.

The first inning saw little action as both teams recorded one hit, but in the second Nebraska opened up the scoring with a three-run home run off the bat of Taylor Edwards.

The Huskers would not look back as they piled on three more runs, and kept the Tech's bats in check as they won by the score of 6-0.

Tatum Edwards earned the win for Nebraska pitching a two hit shutout, while striking out seven. Junior Holly Thomas took the loss as she surrendered three runs in three innings, while striking out one.

Sophomore Chanelle Spalding posted both of Tech's hits, while junior Whitney Cummings and senior Anna Zdroik each coaxed a walk.

Tech (1-6) will take part in the Frost Classic beginning Firday as it takes on IUPUI and Northern Iowa. The opening pitches are scheduled for 1:00 and 3:30 p.m.
