Complete Commodore Classic results
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior John Greene was the
top individual finisher for the Tennessee Tech men's cross country
team as the Golden Eagles placed 16th Saturday among the 19
Division I teams running in the Commodore Classic, hosted by
Vanderbilt University at Percy Warner Park.
Greene ran the 8K circuit just one second off his career-best
time, finishing 59th overall with a 26:18.69 performance. Tech had
423 points for its 16th place showing.
Lipscomb won the men's team title with 95 points, edging
Mississippi State in second place (110) and East Tennessee State in
third (112). Belmont (122) and Morehead State (173) rounded out the
top five squads. In addition to Morehead State and Tech, the
19-team field also included OVC rivals UT Martin (15th place/422),
Jacksonville State (18th/469) and Tennessee State (19th/598).
Junior Sterling Smith was the second finisher for coach Tony Cox's
team, placing 77th in 26:45.14, while freshman Brennan Huber was
89th in 27:08.56. Huber was one of four Golden Eagle freshmen
running the 8K distance for the first time in their Tech career.
That foursome incuded Daniel Williamson (97th place/27:31.86), Sam
Lariviere (103rd/27:51.93) and Jordan Roth (108th/28:10/91). Senior
Matt Bishop was sandwiched among the four newcomers, placing 101st
in 27:45.13.
The next meet on the schedule for the Golden Eagles is the
Jacksonville State Invitational, Saturday, Oct. 5.
