Matthew is in his fourth season on the cross country squad and will be among the top runners for the Golden Eagles in his senior year...has run in every single meet (20) during the past three years...saved his best for last as a junior, running his career-best 8K time at the OVC Championships...came to Tech from Morristown West High School where he established himself as a competitor on the track...brings a winning attitude to the squad...also a high achiever in the classroom.

AT TECH (In 2012): Matt ran among the team leaders in every meet as a junior, including leading the Golden Eagles in three outings...was Tech's top finisher in the season-opening run at UA-Huntsville, and also paced his team at the Vanderbilt Invitational... had Tech's top performance in the OVC Championships, placing 36th overall, wiping out his previous career-best with a time of 26:19.4...never placed lower than third on the team.

(In 2011):
Matt ran in all seven meets for the Golden Eagles in 2011 and was the team’s second-place finisher in each event..after opening the year with an 8K time of 28:36 at Sewanee, he lowered his time to 27:03 at Georgia State and ran times ranging from the high 26s to the low 27s for the remainder of the season...ran his best times in the middle of the year with a 26:51 at Jacksonville State and a 27:12 at the TTU Invitational...finished the year with a 27:24 at the OVC Championships and a 34:35 10K time at the NCAA South Regional.

(In 2010): Matthew was stellar and consistent in his first season on the Tech squad...ran in all six meets of the cross country season...placed first on the team in the early races of the season at Sewanee and Western Kentucky...finished the last four meets second on the squad...achieved his best time of 26:54.82 at Evansville.

HIGH SCHOOL: Matthew ran for coach Raymond Farmer at Morristown West...in addition to four letters in cross country, he also received one letter in track...earned all-conference honors all four seasons and helped the cross country team win four conference championships and three region crowns... he was instrumental in the team’s steady rise from seventh place in his freshman season, to fourth and second the next two years, culminating in a state championship as a senior...also an achiever in academics, graduating with top honors.
