Freshmen Winborne, Bishop pace Tech runners at WKU meet

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. -- A pair of freshmen were the top finishers Saturday for the Tennessee Tech men's and women's cross country teams at the Western Kentucky Old-Timers Classic. No team scores were tallied in the meet, which drew more than 150 runners.

In the women's 5K race, Peri Winborne placed 21st to pace Tech with a time of 20:29.30. Another first-year Golden Eagle, Rebecca Cline was next across the line for Tech in the time of 20:46.05.

Also in the running for Tech, Emily Williams was 31st in 21:08.88, Amelia McCoy was 33rd in 21:13.94, Beth Miller placed 36th in 21:18.20, Leah Bradley finished 37th in 21:27.28 and Traci Jones was 39th in 21:44.78. Tech had five additional women competing.

Matthew Bishop led the way for the Tech men's squad, placing 32nd overall in the time of 27:57.90 on the 8K course. Two spots back, junior Sam Taylor clocked in at 28:02.95.

A cluster of three Tech runners came in just a second apart, led by John Greene in 42nd place in 28:51.16. He was followed closely by Joseph DeLorenzo (28:51.60) and Tyler Eads (28:52.89). Veterans Daniel Francis (29:13.80) and Ben Shasserre (29:24.93) were in 48th and 49th place. Seven more Golden Eagles were in the race for the men's team.
