COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- In past years, Tennessee Tech runners have met
with plenty of success at the Evansville Invitational, with several
Golden Eagles establishing their personal best times on the course.
On Saturday, coach Tony Cox will take his two teams back to the
Evansville event, their final tuneup of the season before hosting
the OVC Championships at the end of the month.
"Our kids have always enjoyed running in this meet at Evansville,"
Cox said.
Looking to lead the way for the Golden Eagle men's team are senior Sam Taylor and freshman Matthew Bishop. Taylor has been in the top three on the squad in every race this season, and led the team in the past two meets. Bishop led the team in the first two meets this season, and came in second in the two most recent meets.
Sophomore John Greene also looks to make a big impact for Tech. Greene placed third on the team in three of the four meets this season. Junior Daniel Francis, sophomore Chris Bishop, senior Ben Shassere, senior Joseph DeLorenzo and sophomore Nathan Livesey are the other returnees on the squad who are in postion to make a strong impact at Evansville.
The Tech men boast a strong group of freshmen runners. In addition to Matthew Bishop, Tyler Eads and Nathan Snow bring a lot of potential with them to Evansville.
The women's squad looks to be led by freshmen Rebecca Cline and Peri Winborne, two leaders in a solid freshman class. Winborne led the team at Sewanee and Western Kentucky, and came in second at the TTU Invitational and the latest run at Furman. Cline has been improving with each meet, from placing fourth at Sewanee to leading the team in the past two races. Other freshmen in position to make an impact include Amelia McCoy, Emily Williams, Brittney Brown and Meghan O'Donoghue.
The women have a strong returning class who are ready to set some personal best marks at Evansville. Junior Traci Jones, fresh off a new career-best at Furman, looks to build on her success last week. Junior Emily Weinzetl, also coming off a personal-best in the race last week, is in position to make an impact Saturday. Sophomore Beth Miller, in her first year competing in cross country for Tech, and junior Leah Bradley, a transfer from Georgia Southern, are set to make a mark in their first race at Evansville for Tech.
The race begins at 11 a.m., and complete meet results will be posted at TTUsports.com as soon as they become available.
