CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. – Behind big-time contributions from the bottom of the Tennessee Tech tennis team's singles lineup, the Golden Eagles collected a 4-3 victory road win over in-state foe Chattanooga Saturday afternoon.

Despite dropping the doubles point and the top two singles clashes, Tech (4-8) received a slew of impressive showings from the bottom four singles positions en route to the narrow nod over the Mocs (8-5). In fact, not only did those four spots all notch victories to help propel the Golden Eagles to the finish line, but all four registered straight-set wins.

Sophomore Gonazlo Garcia took down Kerim Hyatt, 6-4, 6-2. In the No. 3 matchup, while freshman Carlos Vicente secured a 7-5, 6-1 win over Simon Bustamante out of the No. 4 position and senior Wenceslao Albin rolled to a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Pablo Llebeili in the No. 5 clash. Sophomore Riku Kubota rounded out Tech's winning quartet with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph against Jacob Marshall in the No. 6 gathering.

The top two slots swung UTC's way with a Nikla Gerdes 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 (10-5) nod over freshman Rafael Tosetto in the No. 1 affair and a Tomas Rodriguez 6-4, 6-4 win against freshman Elias Grubert in the No. 2 tilt.

The Mocs began the match by clinching the doubles point thanks to wins in two of the three matchups. Simon Bustamante and Kerim Hyatt carded a 6-4 victory over Gonzalo Garcia and Carlos Vicente out of the No. 1 spot and Niklas Gerdes and Tomas Rodriguez secured a 7-5 triumph against Marc Mila and Fanis Kontopoulos in the No. 2 position.

Wenceslao Albin and Rafael Tosetto did manage a 6-4 win over Pablo Llebeili and Jacob Marshall in the No. 3 slot.

The Golden Eagles will remain on the road for a pair of matches in Alabama, first connecting with Samford on Friday, Mar. 8 at 2 p.m. CT, before meeting UAB Saturday, Mar. 9 at 1 p.m.
