COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – It was well worth the wait.

Playing at home for the first time this season, the Tennessee Tech tennis team easily glided to a 7-0 victory over Austin Peay. Similar to their conference-opening win against EIU, the Golden Eagles (4-10, 2-0 OVC) dropped just one singles set against the Govs (1-14, 0-3), rolling their way to a 25th-straight regular season win against OVC competition.

No. 58 Eduardo Mena captured his fifth-consecutive singles nod, knocking off Almantas Ozelis, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, out of the vaunted No. 1 spot. Marc Mila, Jorge Alfonzo, Gonzalo Garcia and Riku Kubota joined Mena in the straight-set wins department, with the quartet of Golden Eagles claiming victories in two sets as well.

Marc Mila carded a 6-0, 6-4 win over Aleh Drobysh in the No. 3 slot, while Jorge Alfonzo toppled Timo Kiesslich, 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 4 position. Gonzalo Garcia disposed of Jacob Lorino, 6-4, 6-1, in the No. 5 matchup and Riku Kubota rolled past Evan Bottorff, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 6 spot.

Wenceslao Albin needed three sets, but the Salliquelo, Argentina native powered past Christian Edison, 4-6, 6-3, 10-5 in the No. 2 slot.

The Golden Eagles soared off to a strong start in the match, easily seizing the doubles spot with wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The tandem of Riku Kubota and Wenceslao Albin collected a 6-1 win over Evan Bottorff and Christian Edison in the No. 2 matchup, while Eduardo Mena and Gonzalo Garcia took down Chad Woodham and Timo Kiesslich, 6-1, in the No. 3 position.

The top battle pitting Tech's Marc Mila and Arthur Justo against APSU's Aleh Drobysh and Almantas Ozelis did not finish with the score knotted at 3-3.

The Golden Eagles will remain at home, welcoming Eastern Kentucky to Tech Tennis Courts on Saturday, Mar. 31. First serve is scheduled for noon CT.
