Mena named adidas® OVC Tennis Male Athlete of the Week for Tech’s second-straight honor

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech tennis team remains the only team in the OVC to take home a men's weekly honor this spring, as Eduardo Mena was named the adidas® OVC Tennis Male Athlete of the Week following a stellar performance down in Florida. The honor comes on the heels of last week's winner, Marcos Bernardes, who captured the recognition in the first edition of the award this season.

Mena's accolade is well deserved after the 6-foot junior went 2-1 in singles play out of the No. 1 spot during TTU's three matches in three days last weekend in the Sunshine State. Following a Friday loss to the 43rd ranked player in the country in UCF's Korey Lovett, Mena rebounded with back-to-back victories to improve his spring singles mark to 6-2.

On Saturday, Mena lost only two games in his No. 1 battle with FGCU's Oliver Landert as Mena prevailed 6-0, 6-2. The Bultrago del Lozoya followed his near flawless showing with an impressive display Sunday against Charlotte, topping Sam Rice, 6-1, 6-3, on the featured court to smack an exclamation point on the end of the weekend.

Mena and the rest of the Golden Eagles prepare for a light week of action, traveling to Louisville Saturday night for Tech's only match of the week. The tilt with the Cards is slated to begin at 6 p.m. CT.
