COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- Challenging tournaments abound on the 2015 fall schedule awaiting the Tennessee Tech tennis team. Coach Kenny Doyle feels the tough slate will allow his players to continue their individual improvements, coming off a 2015 Ohio Valley Conference regular season championship.
"These are some of the best tournaments we can play in, with many of the top players in the country competing," Doyle said. "Our guys look forward to these kinds of challenges. It gives them a chance to face the best, and to become better players. Win or lose, our guys will be better players heading into next spring because they are going up against really strong opponents. We have some players who will be nationally ranked because of their success this fall season."
The Golden Eagles open the fall season Sept. 11-14 at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships at the University of Georgia. Two weeks later, they will test themselves at the Purdue Invitational, Sept. 25-27.
In October, some of the Tech roster will be in Tulsa, Okla., for the ITA All-American Pre-qualifying event, Oct. 3-4. Players who find success will advance to the Qualifying rounds , Oct. 5-7, followed by the Main Draw, Oct. 8-12.
Those who don't qualify for the ITA event will head to Chattanooga, Oct. 2-3, for the Steve Baras Fall Classic.
The Golden Eagles hope to see several individuals qualify for the USTA/ITA Regional Championships, Oct. 14-18, at the University of Tennessee.
Tech wraps up the fall season playing at North Carolina State, Oct. 23-25, and the Wake Forest Fall Invitational, Nov. 6-8.
None of the fall action counts in team results, but the wins and losses will be credited to individual records. Those marks also aid in a player's bid for national and regional rankings.
