CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.—Another fall, sports-filled weekend sends the Tennessee Tech tennis team to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga to compete in the 33rd annual Steve Baras Fall Classic tennis tournament at the Championship Club on Friday-Saturday, as well as the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-American Pre-Qualifying tournament in Tulsa, Okla on Saturday.
Teams joining the Golden Eagles at this weekend's Steve Baras tournament are the Mocs, Mercer, Eastern Kentucky, Belmont, Kennesaw State and Covenant.
Representing Tech at the tournament are Alvaro Cintas (A singles draw), Jorge Alfonzo (B singles draw), Carlos Tajes (C singles draw), Gagan Jain (D singles draw), Junior Guerrero (E singles draw), and Yusuke Yodono (F singles draw).
In doubles, Cintas and Alfonzo will team up in the A draw, while Jain and Tajes will represent the Golden Eagles in the B draw, and Guerrero and Yodono get together in the C draw.
Matches begin at 8:30 a.m. on both Friday and Saturday.
Representing the Tech tennis team at the ITA tournament are Eduardo Mena, Alex Arovin, and Alberto Esteban.
Pre-qualifying matches are slated to begin on Saturday, Oct. 3, with qualifying matches starting on Oct. 5 and main draw contests getting underway on Oct. 8. The singles and doubles finals are scheduled for Oct. 12.
This will be the 11th straight year that the University of Tulsa has served as the official tournament host. Matches will take place at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center courts, and live video for each match at the Michael D.
