Golden Eagles fall to APSU, 4-0, in OVCtournament semifinals

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech tennis team could not repeat their feat of topping Austin Peay as they had a week ago in the regular season final. On Saturday, TTU fell 4-0 to the Governors in the semifinals of the Ohio Valley Conference tournament.

Last Saturday, Tech and APSU matched up to find out who would take home a share of the OVC Regular Season title, and in that match, the Golden Eagles came up on top. However, on Saturday in Nashville, the Govs got the advantage.

Tech opened up doubles play with an 8-3 win in the No. 3 match, as freshman Eduardo Mena and Jorge Alfonzo defeated Aleh Drobysh and Manuel Montenegro.

APSU evened it up taking the No. 2 match. Aleksa Tverijonas and Aaron Jumonville defeated senior Artem Tarasov and junior Alvaro Cintas 8-6.

The doubles point rode on the result of the No. 1 match. Down early, junior Alex Arovin and sophomore Alvaro Cintas to tie the match at 7-7. In the tie-break, the duo fell 8-6, ultimately giving Austin Peay the win, 8-7, and the doubles point.

The Governors seemed to take the momentum in the match into singles play.

They took the second point in the No. 2 singles match as Mena fell to Tverijonas, 6-4, 6-3.  The third point came in the No. 3 match, as Esteban fell, 6-3, 6-2, to Jumonville. The Govs took the match as Arovin fill 6-3, 7-5, in the No. 1 spot.

The No. 4, 5 and 6 matches remained unfinished.

The Golden Eagles finish the 2015 season with a 10-13 record, 8-1 in OVC play, and a 2015 co-Regular Season championship.
