BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech senior Syrym Abdukhalikov has been named adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Male Athlete of the Week in tennis.
Abdukhalikov went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at the No. 1 doubles spot last week as Tennessee Tech picked up a pair of road conference wins.
Against Morehead State, he won a tie-breaker in the second set then clinched a win in the third set for the deciding point to win the match. He teamed with Alejandro Augusto to pick up a pair of doubles wins.
Abdukhalikov owns a 4-0 OVC singles mark and a 4-0 league
doubles record. Overall, Abdukhalikov is 9-2 in singles play, and
5-6 in doubles.
The Golden Eagles host Jacksonville State Wednesday at 1 p.m., then
wrap up the home portion of their schedule with a pair of matches
this weekend. On Saturday, SIUE visits and on Sunday Tech will
recognize Abdukhalikov for Senior Day when the Golden Eagles
entertain Eastern Illinois. Both weekend matches begin at 12
noon.
