COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech Golden Eagle tennis team gained another win this weekend, defeating the Belmont Bruins, 5-2, Sunday afternoon to remain unbeaten in Ohio Valley Conference play at 2-0.

Tech captured the doubles point after senior Syrym Abdukhalikov and sophomore Alejandro Augusto rallied from an early deficit against Bruins Henrique Norbiato and Fernando Mussolini. The pair won their match, 8-7 (3).

The pair was left on the court to battle it out for the doubles point after Tech and Belmont split the other two doubles matches. Tech claimed an 8-3 win at No. 2 as Vasily Eremeev and Artem Tarasov downed Renato Antun and Navarro Veys. Belmont's No. 3 duo of Bruno Silva and Henrik Claesson took an 8-2 win over Alvaro Cintas and Arturo Santa.

In singles play, Abduhkalikov lost his first set to Norbiato, but closed out the No. 1 spot in dramatic fashion by winning the final two sets, 6-4 and 6-2.

Augusto won the No. 2 spot in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4. Junior Vasily Eremeev also won in straight sets, capturing the No. 4 spot, 6-1, 6-2. Freshman Orthon Lima earned his second singles victory of the season by defeating Henrick Claesson in the final two sets of the No. 6 spot, 7-5, 10-7.

Tennessee Tech continues its homestand Thursday, March 21 at 1 p.m. against Jacksonville State.
