Tennis team visits Charlotte, Winthrop this weekend

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The early road stretch continues for the Tennessee Tech tennis team, which plays matches this weekend at Charlotte on Saturday and Winthrop on Sunday. Tech heads east with hopes of notching its first wins of the spring schedule.

The Charlotte 49ers are 2-3 and begin a five-match home stand against Tech at the Halton-Wagner Tennis Complex Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.  Winthrop, meanwhile, is 1-2 this spring and will welcome coach Kenny Doyle's team Sunday at 12 p.m. ET.

Syrym Abdukhalikov has posted a 2-0 record this spring in singles play, with two additional matches marked as unfinished. The senior from Kazakhstan was leading in both contests when the overall match ended. Alejandro Augusto is 1-1 this spring with two unfinished matches. A sophomore from Madrid, Spain, Augusto was in the third set of one of those unfinished contests and his lone loss of the season also went three sets. Including his record in the fall, Augusto is currently 10-6 in singles action.

Vasily Eremeev, a junior from Russia, owns themost singles wins on the team this year. While he's 1-3 in the spring, his overall record for the year is 11-7.
