Syrym showed tremendous promise in his first action with the
Golden Eagles duing the fall, compiling a combined 8-6 record
against some very stiff competition in tournament play...claimed a
pair of singles wins over SEC foes...a TTU transfer from the
University of Oklahoma, Syrym had previously played Davis Cup
competion forcing him to sit out two full seasons, including one
year at OU and the 2010-2011 season at Tech...tasted his first TTU
action in the fall....a native of Kazakhstan, Syrym competed
professionally until he decided to take time off for his
education...has two years of eligibility remaining with the Golden
Eagles ...has aspirations to continue his proffessional
career after school.
AT TECH - (In 2012 Fall Season):Syrym posted a
singles record this Fall with a 2-5 overall record, but had more
success in doubles action. In doubles, he posted an overall record
of 7-3, all of which came while being paired with Alejandro
Augusto. In his first doubles match, the pair teamed up to beat
ranked #19 Florida, Billy Federhofer and Bob Van Overbeek with a
score of 8-4.
(In 2011-12): In the spring Syrym was the
number one player for the Golden Eagles. He posted an overall
record of 15-12 in singles. In doubles he posted an overall record
of 11-12 with most of his wins coming after being paired with Alex
Chen. In the Fall Syrym posted a 5-4 singles record during
tournament play in his Golden Eagle debut, the most wins on the
squad...in doubles action, he paired with Alex Chen to claim a 3-2
record...single wins came against players from Lipscomb, Davidson,
Xavier and Georgia's Nathan Pasha and Tennessee's Bryan
Schwartz.
(In 2010-11): Syrym was on the sidelines during
his first season on the roster due to NCAA transfer rules, sitting
out as a redshirt.
BEFORE TECH: Starting in the sport at the age of
10, Syrym has played for 13 years in national and international
competition... ranked in the ITF U-18 Top 70...highest
international rank was 548 in the ATP world singles charts and 460
in doubles...has captured tourney titles in Greece, Georgia and
Pakistan....spent one year at Oklahoma as a member of the team but
was not eligible to compete because of his previous Davis Cup
experience...the restriction continued through the
2010-11...attended Almaty High School.
