No. 63 Radford claims 7-0 victory over Golden Eagle netters

RADFORD, Va. -- Ranked No. 63 in the latest ITA poll, the Radford Highlanders extended their winning streak to 10 straight matches with a 7-0 victory over Tennessee Tech Friday afternoon.

In doubles action, Josh Girling and Justin Kirstein put up the best effort as they fell 8-4. The pairings of Alex Chen and Murilio deOliveira in the no. 2 doubles match and Arturo Santa Ruize and James Crawford in the no. 3 doubles match each lost by the score of 8-2.

Radford won all six of the singles matches, five of which came in straight sets. Girling forced a third set against Nick Sayer in the no. 2 singles match as he responded from a 7-5 loss in the first set with a 6-3 win in the second. With the outcome of the dual already decided, they played a tie-breaker in which Sayer won 10-6.

Chen dropped the No. 1 match 6-4, 6-3, while Kirstein fell in the No. 3 match 7-6, 6-3. Oliveira dropped the fourth singles match in straight sets 6-0, 6-3, which sealed Radford's victory.

Vasily Eremeev and Santa Ruize also fell in straight sets, with Eremeev losing the No. 5 match 6-3, 6-1 and Santa Ruize dropping the no. 6 match 6-1, 6-1.

Tech continues its weekend action in at Radford as it takes on Charlotte Saturday, at 3 p.m.
