After spending his first collegiate season at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Josh transfered to Tech prior to the 2008-09 season...was a key member of the team in his first two seasons on the roster, and now figures to be a regular day-to-day player for coach Kenny Doyle's squad. Josh seemed to really take off in 2009-2010 season, with a very impressive singles and doubles record that lead his team to a successful season. He plans on continuing that success into the 2010-2011 season playing one of the top positions for Tennessee Tech. Josh's hard work on the court and determination to prevail has given his teammates a lot of trust in his skills and assurance in his ability to lead them to a conference championship title.

AT TECH --
In Fall 2010 (Senior): Josh completed the fall season making it his best one yet. He showed tremendous improvements in his singles abilities, wrapping up the season with a 10-5 record. He also finished with a 3-4 doubles record with teammates James Crawford and Justin Kirstein. Josh kicked off the season with fire under his belt as he made it to the finals of the UNCG Invitational. The following weekend he competed in the Indiana University Invitational wherehe swept four straight victories to capture the 2nd flight championship. But his biggest win came at the Southern Intercollegiate Championship where he captured a win over 6th seeded Christian Blocker from Miami. Also at the Indiana Invitational, Josh teamed with James Crawford in doubles where the duo won their first two rounds. Josh and James also gained a win over Presbyterian at the Elon Invitational. One of two seniors, Josh has not only stepped up as a player but as a leader for the men's team. His confident, powerful style of play will be tough for any player to compete with in the conference this spring.


In 2009-10 (Junior):
Josh had a very successful spring season playing the two position for Tech in singles and one spot in doubles. He had an overall fall and spring record of 17-9 in singles and was paired most of the season with Nick Stafford, who helped him earn a 15-9 overall doubles record. Josh recieved his first career all-conference recognition for his perfect 7-0 record in OVC singles play. He also helped pave the way for the team's second place title with his 5-1 record for OVC doubles matches. His drive and ambition he displayed throughout the year not only earned him his success, but also gained him the honor of the team's Johnny Donnelly Maverick Award. The award recognizes a true TTU sports fan who passed away after a long fought battle with muscular dystrophy. Josh's ability to fire up the team and lead through encouragement and example earned him the honor...Josh began his junior campaign with a solid showing in the fall, posting a 7-5 record in singles play...was 7-4 in doubles matches.

In 2008-09 (Sophomore):
Josh moved between the No. 2 and No. 3 spots in Tech's singles ladder, posting an overall 10-16 record...was 4-4 in OVC matches and 7-12 overall in dual competition...was 13-7 overall in doubles play, including a 13-6 mark when paired with Dean O'Brien at the No. 1 position...was 12-4 in dual matches and 5-2 against OVC foes.

Before Tech (at FDU as a Freshman): First collegiate season was at Fairleigh Dickinson University in 2007-08, where he helped lead the team to the Northeastern Conference championship and a trip to the 2008 NCAA Tournament...was 24-10 in singles, including 11-6 in dual matches with 13 of the 17 being at No. 3...was 13-4 in tournament play...went 22-10 while teaming with five different playing partners in doubles.

High School: Josh attended Peter Symonds while growing up in Winchester... was a member of the cricket and soccer teams while being coached by Julian Godfrey on the tennis team... helped his team finish in the top twice in the National Schools Championships.

Personal: Josh Girling is the son of Adrian and Diane Girling of Winchester, England... two sisters, Holly (23) and Hattie (18)... born on October 18, 1988... major is psychology.
