Tech men's golf team signs Broyles, Ogle to national letters of intent

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech men's golf head coach Polk Brown announced the addition of two players for the 2023-24 athletic season, signing Alex Broyles and Peyton Ogle to national letters of intent to play for the Golden Eagles.

ALEX BROYLES
Hometown: Greeneville, Tenn.
High School: Greeneville High School

Broyles competed at Greeneville High School for head coach Nathan Hale, representing the first Greene Devil boys golfer to reach the TSSAA State Tournament since 2013 as a junior. He made it back-to-back appearances in the TSSAA Class 2A State Championships in 2022, tying for 17th overall with a two-day total of 150.

He qualified for the State Tournament in 2022 after tying for first place at the District 2-AA Tournament and Region 1-AA Tournament. He tied for second place at both events as a junior as well.

During his career, Broyles led Greeneville to four District 2-AA titles, finishing with 16 top-five finishes and seven more top-10 performances. He also claimed six first-place showings, including back-to-back championships at the Mike Mills Invitational in both 2021 and 2022.

Ranked 18th overall in the Class of 2022 in the state of Tennessee, Broyles was named to the 2022 5-Star Preps Watch List and to the 2021 All-5-Star Preps Golf Team.

PEYTON OGLE
Hometown: Chattanooga, Tenn.
High School: Signal Mountain High School

Ogle put together a banner career at Signal Mountain High School for head coach Rodney Mitchell, becoming the first five-time letterwinner in school history. He wrapped up his senior season either owning or sharing every school record that the program has and is expected to be the first boy's golfer named Chattanooga Times Free Press Best of Preps Golfer of the Year in 2022.

The future Golden Eagle earned five All-District honors and five All-Region accolades during his storied career, making five straight TSSAA State Final appearances. He tied the school record with three top-10 finishes at the State Finals, including a runner-up showing as a senior. He shot a 1-under 143 at the event, highlighted by a 3-under 69 in the second round.

He also picked up a school-record-tying two TSWA All-State selections in his final two seasons. Ogle's nine-hole average of 34.71 and 18-hole average of 69.27 in 2022 both represented school records. His 6-under 30 on the back nine at Bear Trace Harrison Bay in the 2022 Chattanooga City Prep produced another program record, as did his 6-under 66 he accomplished at the Chattanooga City Prep and again at WindStone at the East Hamilton Invitational.

He posted individual wins at the TSSAA district and region tournaments in 2021. Ogle boasted an accomplished junior golf career as well, boasting 50 wins and 31 top-five finishes competing across the Sneds Tour, US Kids Tour, AJGA Tour, Southern State Jr. Tour, and CDGA Jr. Tour.
