Tech men’s golf concludes first tournament of the year with a top-five finish

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – It was a top-five finish to tie a ribbon on the Tennessee Tech men's golf team's first tournament of the year, as the Golden Eagles concluded with a final-round 6-under to wrap up the Golfweek Fall Challenge in a fifth-place tie with Jacksonville State in the field of 18.

Tech capped its stay at the True Blue Golf Club in Myrtle Beach at 15-under and the club's 282 in Tuesday's third round deadlocked the purple and gold for the fifth-lowest team score of the day. The Golden Eagles finished two strokes back of Temple for fourth and four strokes behind Campbell for third. Delaware's final-round 18-under catapulted the Blue Hens to the title after edging Mercer by one stoke at 30-under.

Nick Sutton secured a top-10 finish in the field of 93 after shooting an impressive final-round 6-under 66 to wrap up the tourney in a tie for ninth with an overall 8-under 208. The 6-foot sophomore's Tuesday showing was tied for the fifth-best score of the day.

Mark McDearman ended with a top-20 finish thanks to a final-round 3-under 69, moving up one spot into a knot of 18th at 5-under 211. Chance Taylor jumped up four spots into a tie for 26th place with a final-round 1-under to conclude his overall performance at 1-under 215.

Bracton Womack's 5-over 77 pushed him into a deadlock for 35th at an overall even-par, while Bryce Beeler ended his time in Myrtle Beach in a tie for 90th after carding a 4-over 76 on Tuesday. Wofford's Harry Jones captured the individual championship with a 17-under 199, besting Temple's Conor McGrath by four strokes.

With Tech's first tournament of the fall in the rearview mirror, the Golden Eagles will set their sights on the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn., with a two-day affair set for Oct. 4-5.
