SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team completed its first event of the 2020-21 campaign Sunday afternoon, finishing off play at The Invitational at Savannah Harbor in ninth place among 16 teams.
With second-round action halted on Saturday due to a lack of daylight, Tech wrapped up the final two holes on Sunday before concluding round three. The purple and gold turned in rounds of 300 and 305, finishing the tournament with an 895 overall. Mercer claimed the top spot with an 861 behind individual medalist Tyler Copp's 209.
After pacing Tech with a 2-under 70 on Saturday, Bryce Beeler took the top spot team at the conclusion of play on Sunday behind rounds of 75 and 76. The junior tied for 22nd among the 87 golfers with a 221.
Sophomore Nick Sutton produced the team's low round of the day, firing a 2-under 70 in round two. A 78 in round three provided Sutton with a 222 overall score, tying him for 26th.
Tying for 59th overall were senior Bracton Womack and junior Chance Taylor, each carding final scores of 229. Womack produced rounds of 77 and 80 while Taylor finished the day with a 78 and 75.
Rounding out Tech's lineup was Cookeville native Will Brooks. The senior turned in scores of 81 and 76 to finish tied for 67th with a 231.
Tech will return to action Sunday Mar. 14 through Tuesday Mar. 16, heading to Sevierville, Tenn. to host its annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate. Play will commence at Sevierville Golf Club on the River Course.
