COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Tech junior Will Brooks was selected to the All-Ohio Valley Conference Team as announced by the league office Wednesday.
"What a tremendous honor for Will," Tech head coach Polk Brown expressed. "I know that was something [assistant] Coach [Amanda] Smith and I discussed with him in the past as something he really wanted to achieve this year. For him to be voted on to the team by the rest of the coaches here in the OVC just goes to show that he put out a body of work in the short amount of time that we had that couldn't be overlooked. I know he is proud of this and I'm very proud of him. I know this is just the beginning and I'm excited to see what happens next."
Brooks ranked 11th in the league in scoring at the time of the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent cancellation of the remainder of the 2019-20 season. The Cookeville native posted a mark of 72.47 in six events spanning 17 rounds.
Twice on the year, Brooks earned All-Tournament honors with top-five finishes at the SIUE Derek Dolenc Invitational and the Intercollegiate at The Grove. His performance at The Grove of a 74-68=142 earned him OVC Golfer of the Week honors in the fall.
During the year, Brooks turned in the team's low-round with a 5-under 67 at the Bash at the Beach. He also ranked second on the team in scoring average and posted a team-high seven rounds of par or better golf. The junior also led Tech in each of its first three events on the shortened year.
Although the OVC Golf Championship was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, golf was unique in that when the season ended in March, over 71 percent of the scheduled contests for the year had been completed. That combined with the fact that golf does not play a conference schedule, it was deemed there was enough statistical data to award the All-OVC and All-Newcomer Teams honors. However, it was decided the Player, Freshman and Coach of the Year awards would not be awarded this year since the Championship was not conducted.
