Golden Eagles place seventh at F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate

DICKSON, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team saved its best round for last at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon, completing day two of action at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.

The Golden Eagles placed seventh out of 11 teams in competition, posting a total score of 875, 11 strokes above par. Tech wrapped up the day with a 289, adding to rounds of 292 and 924 from Monday's effort. UT Martin captured the tournament title, firing a 20-under 844 to edge out host Austin Peay by three shots.

Tying for 20th among the 71 golfers and leading the purple and gold for the event was senior Dabney Dickenson. The veteran carded scores of 73, 69 and 74, finishing with a season-low 216 and at even-par overall. In three rounds, he recorded 11 birdies, tying for the team lead.

Junior Will Brooks ranked second among the Golden Eagles with a 4-over 220, backed by nine birdies. Tying for 32nd on the leaderboard, the Cookeville native captured rounds of 71, 74 and 75.

Chance Taylor turned in the low round of the day for the purple and gold with a 2-under 70, finishing with a 5-over 221. His 11 birdies and scores of 75, 76 and 70 tied him for 36th overall with teammate and fellow sophomore Cade Puryear. His 221 came by virtue of a second-round 75 bookended by opening and closing rounds of 73.

The fifth member of the Tech lineup, Nick Sutton, also enjoyed an improved third round. The freshman ranked 44th with an even-par 72 on Tuesday to finish with a 224 overall. Just one shot behind and competing as an individual, fellow rookie Sean Anderson completed his first collegiate tournament in a tie for 45th. He shot a 1-over 73 after back-to-back rounds of 76 and a total of 225.

The Skyhawks' Jack Story captured individual medalist honors with an 844, finishing one stroke ahead of the Governors' Michael Busse.

Tech will return to the links for its third straight tournament in as many weeks Monday, Oct. 21 at the Pinetree Intercollegiate in Kennesaw, Ga.
