Womack ties program single-round record, Golden Eagles tie for fifth at OVC Championships

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team closed out the 2018-19 season in a tie for fifth place at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships Tuesday afternoon, turning in the team's best showing of the event with a 285.

Several Golden Eagles went low over the final 18 holes of action at the Fighting Joe Course at the Shoals. For the week, Tech finished with an 868 to share a tie for fifth place with Eastern Kentucky and SIUE.

Sophomore Bracton Womack paced the purple and gold, tying the program record for a single round with a 5-under 67. His round tied him with fellow sophomore Will Brooks for 16th among the 55 golfers.

Both youngsters carded final scores of even-par 216 in their second turns in the OVC Tournament, an improvement of three shots by Brooks and 10 shots by Womack. Brooks turned in his second round under par of the week, a 1-under 71.

Senior Matthew Giles closed out his Golden Eagle career with a 71 of his own, completing the tournament 29th with a final score of 219. Junior Cameron Yeary tied for 34th in the tournament with a 223 after a third-round tally of 76.

Completing his first ever try at the OVC Championships, freshman Bryce Beeler tied for 40th. He rounded out the last event of the year with a 77 to turn in a 228 on the scoreboard.
