SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team concluded play at the Wofford Invitational Tuesday afternoon, ranking ninth on the final leaderboard out of a total of 16 teams in contention at the Country Club of Spartanburg.
The Golden Eagles fired off a third-round 295, accounting for an overall tally of 886 for the two-day event. Furman captured the tournament title in dominant fashion, shooting 25-under as a team to win by 27 shots.
The highlight of the event for the purple and gold was the play of sophomore Bracton Womack, who fired his second consecutive, 4-under 68. The inspired performance tied the youngster for third among the 88 golfers in contention, cementing an All-Tournament honor and his second top-three finish in three weeks.
Womack carded a 5-under 211 for the week, capturing a 75 in the first round before turning in the back-to-back 68s. It marked the first time in his career he notched two, sub-70, single-round scores in the same event.
Next among the Tech participants was fellow sophomore Will Brooks, who tied for 31st with a 221. The Cookeville native captured rounds of 74, 72 and 75 for the week, coming in five shots above par. Senior Matthew Giles tied for 49th after putting together a 226 (74-75-77).
Junior Cameron Yeary concluded his efforts in Spartanburg with scores of 75, 78 and 80, accounting for a 233. Rounding out the lineup was freshman Bryce Beeler. The rookie shaved seven strokes off his second-round 82, carding a 3-over 75 on Tuesday to finish with a 237.
The Golden Eagles will return to the links Monday, Apr. 8 to kick off the two-day Big Blue Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee State at The Hermitage Golf Course in Old Hickory.
