COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Fresh off his first career tournament win, Tennessee Tech sophomore Bracton Womack claimed a share of this week's Ohio Valley Conference Male Golfer of the Week honor as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon.
The Golden Eagle youngster became the first individual medalist for Tech since 2007, firing a 2-under 214 at the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn. He led the field of 65 golfers with 14 birdies in three rounds of action at Jackson Country Club, leading his team to its first tournament title since the spring of 2015.
Womack became just the 29th different Tech men's golfer to earn medalist honors at a tournament and the first under the direction of head coach Polk Brown. Both John Fox and current PGA Tour pro Scott Stallings claimed tournament crowns in 2007, the most recent Golden Eagles to accomplish the feat before Womack's triumph on Tuesday.
The McMinnville native shared the league's weekly honor with Jacksonville State's Jesus Dario Montenegro, who finished higher than a pair of nationally-ranked individuals from Wake Forest in helping the Gamecocks capture the Bash at the Beach title.
The Golden Eagles will next head to Sevierville to host the Seventh Annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate at Sevierville Golf Club. The three-day event will kick off Sunday, Mar. 17 and run through Tuesday, Mar. 19.
