Tech men's golf team improves four places over final two rounds of East Bay Deli Classic

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team made the most of its final two rounds of the 2018-19 fall campaign, leaping four positions on the final leaderboard of the East Bay Deli Classic.

The Golden Eagles bounced back from a first-round 316 on Sunday afternoon, moving up from 20th to 16th place overall after turning in back-to-back sub-300 rounds on Monday and Tuesday. The purple and gold finished the event 16th with a 908 (316-299-293).

Senior Matthew Giles was the lead man for the Tech squad, tying for 25th overall after posting a 222 (76-75-71). The veteran was especially impressive Tuesday afternoon, firing a 1-under 71 to clinch a top-25 finish in a field of 117.

Bracton Womack was next on the leaderboard for the Golden Eagles after three days of action, turning in a 229 (77-74-78). The sophomore finished in a tie for 64th. Fellow sophomore Will Brooks recovered from a tough first round of play on Sunday, shooting just 3-over over the final 36 holes. He turned in a 231 (84-73-74) to tie for 74th.

Also tying for 74th was Cameron Yeary. The junior saw improved play each of the final two days, shaving five strokes from Sunday to Monday and another five strokes from Monday to Tuesday. He finished the final tournament of the fall with a 231 (82-77-72).

Wrapping up the action for Tech was true freshman Chance Taylor. The rookie carded a 26 (81-79-76) in his second collegiate event.

The Golden Eagles will return to the links for the spring season on Feb. 16, taking part in the Invitational at Savannah Harbor in Savannah, Ga.
