DULUTH, Ga. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team wrapped up the final round of play at the Autotrader Collegiate Classic Tuesday afternoon, finishing 11th overall after three rounds of action at Berkeley Hills Country Club.
For the second consecutive round, the Golden Eagles showed improvement as a group on the scoreboard, cutting two strokes from its second-round effort to finish with a total of 868 (294-288-286), the team's second-lowest score of the year.
Leading the way, both in the event as a whole as well as on the day, was sophomore Will Brooks. The Cookeville native carded a season-low, 4-under 68, tying for the lowest round of the day. He finished in a tie for 19th among the 75 golfers, posting a 213 (73-72-68) overall.
Right behind in the order of finish was fellow sophomore Bracton Womack, who finished 26th on the leaderboard. He captured a 214 (72-72-70) for the tournament thanks to a 2-under 70 on Tuesday. The 54-hole score marked his lowest of the season.
Junior Dabney Dickenson followed his teammates into the clubhouse, rounding out the day with a 1-under 71 to finish in a tie for 40th. He totaled 219 (76-72-71) for the week, his second sub-220 tournament in-a-row.
Fellow junior Cameron Yeary concluded play with an overall score of 222 (73-72-77) while senior Matthew Giles finished the event with a 231 (76-72-83).
Georgia Southern held on to win the event by one stroke over UNCG, finishing with an 829 (273-274-282) behind the work of individual medalist Steven Fisk, who carded a 199 (65-65-69).
The Golden Eagles will get two weeks of practice to prepare for their final event of the fall, a three-day extravaganza in Kiawah Island, S.C. Tech will take part in the East Bay Deli Classic from Sunday, Nov. 4 through Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Turtle Point Golf Club.
