Golden Eagles place seventh at Derek Dolenc Invitational

MADISON, Ill. – The final day of the Derek Dolenc Invitational is officially in the books as the Tennessee Tech men's golf team posted a final-round total of 297 to finish seventh among 17 teams competing at Gateway National Golf Links.

The Golden Eagles capped three rounds in two days with an 873 (290-286-297) final score, finishing just five strokes back of DePaul for sixth place.

Bracton Womack notched a top-25 finish in the event, tying for 25th among the 95 participants after concluding play 5-over for the tournament. He shot a 218 (73-70-75) to lead the Golden Eagles.

Not far behind was freshman Chance Taylor, whose 221 (71-73-77) was good enough to tie for 32nd place. Fellow rookie Bryce Beeler and junior Cameron Yeary both tied for 37th overall after posting 74s during the final round. Beeler came in at 222 (71-77-74) powered by a spectacular first round. Yeary's 222 (79-69-74) was the product of a sparkling second round.

Will Brooks rounded out the competitors for the Golden Eagles, compiling a 223 (75-74-74) behind consistent play. He tied for 41st overall.

Host SIUE captured the team title, winning by a decisive 12 strokes with an 842 (283-283-276). Kyle Slattery, of SIUE, claimed the individual medalist honor by three shots after posting a 203 (71-65-67).

Tech will get right back into action next week, making a trip east to Sapphire, N.C. for the Hummingbird Intercollegiate. Play is set to run from Monday, Oct. 1 through Tuesday, Oct. 2 at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
