SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. - The Tennessee Tech men's golf team wrapped up play at the sixth annual Bobby Nichols Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon, placing sixth among 14 teams after carding a third-round 296.
In three rounds of action on the River Course at Sevierville Golf Club, the Golden Eagles tallied scores of 295, 282 and 296 to combine for an overall total of 873. Eastern Kentucky captured the tournament title, edging out Carson-Newman by a single stroke with a score of 850.
Tech senior Matthew Giles led the Golden Eagle effort with a 216 through 54 holes, his second-lowest score of the season. The veteran posted a 2-over 74 on day three to tie for 14th among the 84 golfers.
Tying for 22nd was freshman Will Brooks, who matched his teammates efforts on the links for his own 74 on Tuesday. He finished the tournament with a 219, backed by scores of 74, 71 and, of course, another 74.
Seniors Alexander Riddle and A.J. Wilkerson ranked next among the Tech lineup, tying for 31st with totals of 221. Riddle carded rounds of 74, 68 and 79 while Wilkerson posted a 74, 75 and 72. Freshman Bracton Womack rounded out the Golden Eagle starters, tying for 45 with a 75-74-76=225.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Dabney Dickenson put together the best tournament of his young career, tying for 10th place after turning in rounds of 72, 72 and 71. His 215 bested his previous career-low 54-hole score by a whopping eight strokes. He finished first among all individual competitors in the field.
Also competing as an individual, fellow sophomore Cameron Yeary tied for 22nd after carding his second-best score of his career, a 219. He turned in rounds of 72, 67 and 80 to rank second among the individual participants.
Carson-Newman's Tom Forster took home individual medalist honors, concluding play with a 71-65-67=203.
Tech will return the links Friday, Apr. 13 to compete in the three-day, Mason Rudolph Championship hosted by Vanderbilt in Franklin, Tenn. at the Vanderbilt Legends Club.
