Tech men's golf team finishes sixth at Hummingbird Intercollegiate

SAPPHIRE VALLEY, N.C. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team completed play at its third tournament of the fall Tuesday afternoon, concluding the Hummingbird Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley in sixth place among 13 teams.

The Golden Eagles posted a final-round score of 303, totaling 881 after rounds of 291 and 287 on day one. Gardner-Webb took home the tournament title with an event-record 856 thanks to scores of 275, 284 and 297.

Playing as an individual, Clemson's Colby Patton took home medalist honors with a tournament-record score of 202 backed by rounds of 66, 66 and 70.

True freshman Bracton Womack led the way for the Golden Eagles, posting a 3-over 74 to round out the event with a season-low 216 after finishing day one with scores of 70 and 72. He tied for 18th among the 87 participants, his first top-20 finish of the year.

Senior Alexander Riddle finished his first event of the fall with a solid showing, matching Womack's third-round tally of 74 to post a 219 for the tournament. The veteran finished in a tie for 22nd place while his 219 marked his lowest- score since his freshman season.

Fellow senior A.J. Wilkerson carded a 71-74-79=224 to tie for 45th at the event while junior Matthew Giles turned in a 75-71-79=225 to tie for 50th. Sophomore Cameron Yeary rounded out Tech's participants at the event with a 77-75-76=228, tying for 62nd.

The Golden Eagles are set for a week of practice before returning to action Oct. 16 and 17 at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate at Greystone Golf Club in Dickson, Tenn.
