Golden Eagle men in striking distance at EKU Raising Canes Intercollegiate

RICHMOND, Ky. – After the first day of play at the Eastern Kentucky Raising Canes Intercollegiate, the Tennessee Tech men's golf team found themselves eight strokes back from tournament leader, host Eastern Kentucky, on Saturday with one round remaining to play.

The Colonels shot 284 and 278 in the first two rounds on Saturday for a two-over 562 through two rounds, followed by Ball State (278-288—566), Morehead State (282-285—567) and Marshall (290-277—567) for the top three spots.

The Golden Eagles shot 280 in their first round, then had a 10-over 290, placing in a seventh-place tie with fellow Ohio Valley Conference team SIU Edwardsville (288-282—570).

Cleveland State's Blake Prince (67-69—136) and Ball State's Johnny Watts (65-71—136) lead the medalist chase with a 4-under score, while Noah Combs (Eastern Kentucky, 70-67—137) and Alex Weiss (70-67—137) are a stroke back.

For the Golden Eagles, Bracton Womack leads the team with a 68-75—143 to stand in a tie for 30th. A.J. Wilkerson (72-72—144) is tied for 38th, Matthew Giles (72-73—145) and Will Brooks (68-77—145) is tied for 43rd, while Cameron Yeary (77-70—147) is tied for 54th.

Also from the OVC, Austin Peay (293-285—578) is in 13th, while Murray State (292-290—582) stands in 14th.

The tournament concludes Sunday morning with a 7:30 Central shotgun start.
