Golden Eagles finish eighth at Big Blue Intercollegiate

OLD HICKORY, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team saved its best performance of the week for the final round of the Big Blue Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon, tallying a 302 to finish in eighth place among the 13-team field at the President's Reserve Course at Hermitage Golf Club.

After putting together back-to-back scores of 311 on Monday, the Golden Eagles shaved nine strokes off the total to come in at 924 overall and edge Green Bay by a single stroke. UT Martin took home the team title, finishing at 880 overall behind individual medalist Hunter Richardson, who posted a 75-69-69=213.

Leading the way for Tech was A.J. Wilkerson, who tied for eighth place for his fourth top-10 finish of the year and third in-a-row. The junior snagged his second straight even-par 72 on Tuesday, finishing at 222 for the event.

Not too far behind, freshman Cameron Yeary carded a 77-75-74=226, tying for 19th in the 70-player field. The rookie led the entire tournament with 40 pars through three rounds while Wilkerson finished second with 39.

Freshman Charles Seals rounded out the two days of play with a 230, backed by rounds of 74, 77 and 79. He finished in a tie for 29th overall. Fellow freshman Dabney Dickenson concluded the Tech starters, completing the tournament with an 82-87-77=246.

The Golden Eagles will return to action and round out the 2016-17 schedule at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in Muscle Shoals, Ala. from Monday, Apr. 24 through Wednesday Apr. 26. The tournament will take place at the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals, part of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.
