Golden Eagles round out play at Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate, finish 11th

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team completed its first action of the spring semester Tuesday afternoon, placing 11th among 14 teams at the Fort Lauderdale Intercollegiate at Fort Lauderdale Country Club.

Tech maintained its close lead over Hartford from Monday's action, edging out its opponent by two strokes. The Golden Eagles tallied a 311, matching their first-round output. For the week, TTU shot 311-319-311=941 and defeated Manhattan College and Holy Cross, in addition to Hartford.

Junior A.J. Wilkerson led the Golden Eagles for the week, finishing in a tie for 22nd place among the 84 participants in the event. Wilkerson carded 75-76-76 for a 227, finishing 11-over par.

Sophomore Matthew Giles finished second among the Tech golfers to make the trip south, finishing with a third-round 79. He added his final round to previous scores of 77 and 81 for a 237 overall. Rookie Cameron Yeary shaved an impressive 12 strokes from his second round tally on Tuesday, pacing Tech in the final round with a 74. He rounded out play with a line of 80-86-74=240.

Next among the Tech finishers was junior Alexander Riddle, totaled a 242 behind rounds of 80, 78 and 84. Rounding out things for the Golden Eagles was freshman Dabney Dickenson. The first-year player completed play in Fort Lauderdale with scores of 79, 84 and 82 for a composite 245.

The Golden Eagles will return to action Monday, Mar. 13 with a trip to familiar territory. Tech will once again participate in UT Martin's Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn., a two-day event from Mar. 13-14 at Jackson Country Club.
