MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The first event of the 2016-17 season is officially in the books for the Tennessee Tech men's golf team, as the Golden Eagles completed their third and final round of the GolfWeek Program Challenge Tuesday afternoon, finishing 15th overall with a final score of 886.

Tech combined to tally a 295 on Tuesday, led by true freshman Cameron Yeary. The youngster tallied his lowest round of the event, shooting even par to round out his first career tournament with a 221. He finished in a tie for 51st among the 80-man field.

Close behind in the final round was sophomore Matthew Giles, who closed out play at True Blue Plantation as the leader in the Golden Eagle clubhouse. The Louisville, Tenn. native captured a 1-over 73 to finish at 217 overall and tie for 37th place overall.

Ranking third among the Tech participants was another true freshman, Charles Seals. The rookie carded a 75 for a 222 overall in the event, tying for 56th overall. Not far behind, sophomore Ben Huskey also turned in a 3-over 75, totaling a 226 in his first competition in Myrtle Beach.

Rounding out Tech's starting five was freshman Dabney Dickenson, who wrapped up his first collegiate action with a 236 overall following a final-round 82.

"We have a lot of work to do," head coach Polk Brown said, "but that's to be expected with a group this young. There were some good rounds out there, but we just couldn't put it all together this weekend. I have no doubt we will get there and I know the guys are eager to get back out there and keep working."

The Golden Eagles will get a week away from competition before returning to the links for the Derek Dolenc Invitational starting Monday, Sept. 26. The two-day, 54-hole event hosted by SIUE will take place at Gateway National Golf Club in Madison, Ill.
