Golden Eagles conclude play at Pinetree Intercollegiate

KENNESAW, Ga. – Facing its toughest competition of the season, the Tennessee Tech men's golf team wrapped up play at the Pinetree Intercollegiate Tuesday afternoon, finishing the tournament in 11th place overall in the event hosted by Kennesaw State.

After finishing up the final few holes of round two that weren't completed Monday due to darkness, the Golden Eagles took to the links a third time for the final 18 holes of the tournament. Tech completed the day with a 315 collectively, combining with its scores of 306 and 304 in the first two rounds for a 925 overall.

Mitch Thomas paced the Tech squad throughout the event, tying for 31st after posting rounds of 77, 72 and 79. The senior finished with a 228 to lead the Golden Eagles.

Not far behind, freshman Matthew Giles played consistent golf all week, carding a 77-76-78=231 to finish second among Tech's rotation of five. He tied for 41st overall and concluded play just two strokes below another youngster on the team.

Redshirt freshman Ben Huskey also showed strong consistency during play during the week, ranking 45th overall with scores of 77, 78 and 78 for a 233. One shot back of his teammate was sophomore A.J. Wilkerson. The native of Sparta, Tenn. turned in scores of 75, 79 and 80, finishing with a 234 and in a tie for 46th.

Rounding out Tech's participants was Bryce Kendrick who tied for 61st. the senior tallied rounds of 81, 78 and 84 to complete his first tournament action back from an illness with a 243.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up its fall season Sunday, Oct. 25 when the team hits the road to Gulf Shores, Ala. for the three-day A-State Fall Beach Classic hosted by Arkansas State. The 54-hole event will span Oct. 25-27.
