Tech men's golf team finishes eighth at Derek Dolenc Invitational

MADISON, Ill. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team wrapped up play at the Derek Dolenc Invitational Tuesday afternoon, placing eighth in the 15-team field after posting a 296 as a team in the final round.

Overall, the Golden Eagles finished at 288-282-296=866 for the event while host SIUE placed first thanks to a 272-281-291=844. South Dakota's Jordan Rykal took home individual medalist honors after finishing with scores of 66, 66 and 67 for a 199 overall. He won the event by four strokes.

Just missing out on All-Tournament status and leading the Golden Eagles was sophomore A.J. Wilkerson. The youngest member of the Tech squad competing at the event, he carded rounds of 68, 68 and 76 to finish with a 212 and in a tie for eighth overall among the 88 participants.

Next among Tech's finishers was Mitch Thomas, who tied for 24th overall. The senior notched a 77-79-72=218 for the two-day event while fellow upperclassman Neil Gannaway tallied 69-78-73=220. The former football player tied for 35th overall.

Yet another senior, Bryce Kendrick, competed for the Golden Eagles, tying for 54th after sporting rounds of 76, 71 and 76 for a final score of 223. Cookeville native Adam Cunningham rounded out Tech's scoring, turning in a scorecard of 75-74-75=224 to tie for 59th.

The Tech men's golf team will take a nearly two-week hiatus from competing at the links, returning to action on Monday, Oct. 12 at the Kenny Perry Invitational in Bowling Green, Ky.
