COOKEVILLE, Tenn. – Two years removed from missing his junior season due to injury, Tennessee Tech men's golfer Mason Griffin took what looks to be the final step towards a total recovery this week, earning adidas® Ohio Valley Conference Male co-Golfer of the Week honors Wednesday afternoon.

The senior veteran turned his best performance since his freshman campaign, wrapping up play at The Grove Intercollegiate with rounds of 71-74-76 to finish at 221 (+5). He tied for eighth place in the event with Belmont's Ashton Van Horne, who was also named OVC co-Golfer of the Week.

Griffin's honor was the first of his career as well the first of the 2014-15 season for the men's squad. It marked the fourth consecutive week that a Tech golfer earned Player of the Week honors as the women's team grabbed honors each of the three prior weeks.

Tying for eighth in The Grove Club marked the second top 15 finish for Griffin on the year and sixth of his career. He also finished in a tie for 11th overall two weeks ago at the Kenny Perry Invitational.

With Griffin representing the Golden Eagle men's golf team, each and every one of Tech's seven fall sports (that the OVC presents weekly awards to) saw at least one of its players take home OVC Player of the Week honors this year.  Only two OVC teams have claimed at least one honor in each of football, soccer, volleyball, men's golf, women's golf, men's cross country and women' s cross country; Tech and Murray State.

Through Wednesday, the Golden Eagles had claimed 18 total OVC Player of the Week awards, tied for second most in the league with Eastern Kentucky. Murray State led all teams with 22.
