BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - Inclement weather and poor course conditions continue to be a theme for the Tennessee Tech men's golf team, as the Golden Eagles battled through extremely windy and rainy weather Monday to finish the first day of the Kenny Perry Invitational in sixth place.

The Golden Eagles combined as a team to fire scores of 297 and 301 to finish with a 598 and just eight strokes out of the top three.

Junior Mitch Thomas led the Tech squad on the first day of action, tying for 11th after scores of 72 and 74 for a 146 overall. Next for the Golden Eagles was senior Mason Griffin, whose 77-72=149 guided him to a tie for 22nd overall.

Wiley veteran Lee Whitehead tallied a 73-77=150 on the day, tying for 26th and contributing to the sixth place wrap up on the day for the Tech team. Bryce Kendrick wrapped up the scoring for the Golden Eagles, completing his day with a 76-78=154.

"I thought the guys made progress after a tough outing at Cincinnati," head coach Polk Brown said. "We still have a lot of work to do and I can't wait to see how much more we improve over our final round in Bowling Green."

Adam Cunningham finished his first two rounds with scores of 76 and 84, totaling 160 to round out Tech's participants.

The third and final round of the Kenny Perry Invitational is scheduled to begin with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. CT Tuesday morning.
