Golden Eagles ninth after first day at OVC Championships

MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. - The Tennessee Tech men's golf team set itself up for a big second day on the links in Muscle Shoals, Ala. Friday, finishing the first day of the Ohio Valley Conference Championships in ninth place and with plenty of room to move up.

Leading the Golden Eagles on day one was sophomore Bryce Kendrick, who carded a first-round 77 to finish 31st among the 55 participants. Kendrick led all Tech players with three birdies, finishing his first day five over par.

Lee Whitehead wrapped up play just behind his teammate, finishing six over after a 78. The junior sits in a tie for 32nd after grabbing two birdies on the day.

Next among Tech's finishers was sophomore Mitch Thomas, who carded an 80 to finish eight over. Redshirt junior Mason Griffin concluded his first OVC Championship round in over a year after missing last season with an injury, carding an 81. Sophomore Adam Cunningham completed the first round with an 86.
