Golden Eagles tie for sixth in final event of regular season

LEXINGTON, Ky. - In their final event of the regular season, the Tennessee Tech men's golf team put together a strong showing, as the Golden Eagles tied for sixth place in the UK Bluegrass Invitational Sunday morning.

The Tech squad finished with a total score of 895 for the tournament, tying with Valparaiso. The Golden Eagles shot 314 on the day after carding rounds of 291 and 290 on the first day of action.

Leading the Golden Eagles was Lee Whitehead, as the junior tied for 21st out of nearly 80 participants from 13 teams. Whitehead carded a Sunday round of 79 to wrap up play for the weekend with an overall score of 223.

Not far behind was sophomore Bryce Kendrick, who finished the weekend with a 224 after rounds of 74, 72, and 78. Junior Mason Griffin was next among the Tech participants, carding rounds of 72, 74, and 81 for a 227 for the event.

Sophomore Mitch Thomas finished the event with a round of 84, totaling a 229 for the weekend after rounds of 74 and 71 in the first two rounds. Fellow sophomore Adam Cunningham enjoyed his best round of the weekend, leading the Golden Eagles on the day with a 76 to finish with an overall scorecard of 241.

The Golden Eagles will have nearly two weeks of preparation time before they head south for the Ohio Valley Conference Championships beginning Friday, Apr. 25 in Muscle Shoals, Ala.
