Golden Eages part of great field in South Carolina tournament

DAUFUSKIE ISLAND, S.C. -- It's a unique opportunity facing the Tennessee Tech men's golf team this week when coach Polk Brown takes a lineup of five players to the Rees Jones Collegiate Invitational. The 54-hole tournament will be held over the 7,380-yard Rees Jones-designed layout at Haig Point.

The 11-team field gets play underway with 36 holes scheduled on Monday and another 18 holes set for Tuesday. Tickets that include ferry transportation are available for $25 on Monday (includes hospitality) and $10 on Tuesday at the Haig Point Embarkation off the Route 287 Bypass (Palmetto Parkway).

Kennesaw State is the defending champion while the host University of South Carolina is also lining up as a tournament favorite. In addition to those two school and Tennessee Tech, other schools in the field are Charleston Southern, Charlotte, East Carolina, Francis Marion, Iowa State, Liberty, Presbyterian, UNC-Wilmington and Winthrop.

The Golden Eagle lineup is the same five players who finished 14th last week at the Vanderbilt event to open the season. Tech's rotation includes Lee Maxwell, Lee Whitehead, Greg Kitts, Mitch Thomas and Adam Cunningham.

Tech is paired with Presbyterian and Charleston Southern on the first day of play. Those three teams will begin on holes 14 through 18 in the shotgun start.
