FRANKLIN, Tenn. – The Tennessee Tech men's golf team played
within three strokes on Saturday of its first round total, but the
Golden Eagle saw their standing slip from 10th to
12th place following two rounds of the Mason Rudolph
Men's Championship, being hosted by Vanderbilt at The Legends Golf
Course.
The host Commodores made up seven shots on first-day leader
Oklahoma, and jumped ahead of the Sooners into first place with a
36-hole total 564 after scoring a 278 Saturday. Oklahoma followed
its 280 on Friday with a 285 Saturday and is in second place, one
shot back with a 565.
Junior Greg
Kitts fired another two-over 73 Saturday and climbed into the
team lead along with freshman Mitch Thomas, the
pair tied for 25th on the individual leaderboard at
four-over 146. Kitts had two birdies, four bogeys and 12 pars on
Saturday. Thomas, meanwhile, followed his one-under Friday with a
five-over 75 Saturday, recording one birdie, four bogeys, one
double-bogey and 12 pars.
Senior Lee
Maxwell is tied for 61st place at 151, freshman Adam
Cunningham is 65th at 152, and freshman Lee Whitehead is
tied for 69th at 153. Cunningham went from 10-over-par
81 on Friday to shooting even-par 71 on Saturday, the team's best
score of the day.
Following Vanderbilt and Oklahoma in the standings, Georgia State
and Mississippi State are tied for third at 575, with College of
Charleston in fifth at 578.
The third and final round is scheduled for Sunday morning.
