COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Tennessee Tech men's golf team gets the
2012 fall schedule underway this weekend, joining an elite field of
15 teams at the 14th annual Mason Rudolph Men's Championship being
hosted by Vanderbilt University at the Legends Club. The 54-hole
tournament will feature 18 holes Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the
par 71, 7,100-yard layout.
In addition to Tech and the host Commodores, teams battling for
the title will include Arkansas State, Charleston, Davidson,
Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Mississippi State, Oklahoma, Ole
Miss, Rice, South Alabama, East Tennessee State and Virginia.
Tech's roster includes just one senior, and will will look for
leadership from veteran Lee Maxwell, who has qualified for the top
spot in Tech's lineup for this weekend. Also qualifying for coach
Polk Brown's lineup this weekend are sophomore Lee Whitehead,
junior Greg Kitts, and freshmen Mitch Thomas and Adam
Cunningham.
Middle Tennessee is the defending tournament champion while Ole
Miss claimed second place a year ago and has also won the title in
2006 and 2007. Other previous tournament winners returning this
weekend include Virginia (2005) and Georgia State (2004).
Vanderbilt has won the tournament once, topping the field in 2002
when it set the tournament records for lowest round (268) and
lowest 54-hole total (811).
