Golden Eagles swing into action at Augusta State Saturday

COOKEVILLE, Tenn. -- After exactly four long months without seeing competition, the Tennessee Tech men's golf team will hit the links Saturday in the Forest Hills Collegiate to open the spring season.

The tournament, hosted by two-time NCAA Champion Augusta State, will feature a one-day, 36-hole competition at the Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta, Ga. The 7,121-yard, par 72 course is consistently ranked among the best public courses in the South by several sources. More information on the course can be found at www.theforesthillsgolfcourse.com.

Junior Greg Kitts will lead the Tech squad in the top position, followed by Lee Whitehead, Bryce Kendrick, Adam Cunningham, and Mitch Thomas. Senior Lee Maxwell will be playing individually and his score will not count toward the team total.

Kitts and Thomas return the best averages from fall play, shooting for a 76.3 average. The two Lees, Whitehead and Maxwell, scored 77.5 and 77.7, respectively while Cunningham averaged 79.5.

The field consists of 10 schools for team competition, while one school will play in individual competition only (Georgia). Joining Tech and Augusta State are Charleston Southern, Gardner-Webb, Jacksonville State, Northern Illinois, Presbyterian, UNC Central, USC Upstate, and Wofford.
