Former Golden Eagle Stallings leads at Memorial Tournament

DUBLIN, Ohio -- On the eve of the Pepsi Bobby Nichols Scramble presented by Budweiser, a former Golden Eagle is making headlines in the world of golf. Tennessee Tech alum Scott Stallings shot a low-round of 66 Thursday to lead play at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide Insurance in Dublin, Ohio.

Stallings eagled the seventh and birdied six holes, including three of the final four holes, en route to his -6 outing.

"I love the golf course," Stallings said. "This is my favorite tournament of the season (non-masters) and it's a special place."

He is scheduled to tee off Friday at 8:37 EST and will be playing with Nick Watney and Jonathan Byrd.

Stallings has battled injury this season and Thursday marked his first round under par since Augusta.

The 2007 graduate made his name known in the fall when he won the Greenbrier Classic as a rookie. A native of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Stallings was one of the most decorated players in Tennessee Tech and Ohio Valley Conference golf history during his playing career from 2002 to 2006.
