JACKSONVILLE, Ala. -- Greg Kitts and Mason Griffin took turns
leading Tennessee Tech Monday during the first two rounds of
Jacksonville State's Grub Mart Invitational. The Golden Eagles are
in ninth place in the team standings heading into Tuesday's final
round.
Griffin carded a 75 in the first round Monday, the best score of
the day by any Golden Eagle, placing him in sixth place in the
early going. He followed with a 80 in the second round, and his
36-hole total of 155 put him into a tie for 20th place.
Kitts, meanwhile, opened with a 78 and came back with a 76 in the
second round to end the day as the team's two-round leader. His
score of 154 places him in a tie for 17th place.
Lee Maxwell showed the biggest improvement between rounds,
shooting scores of 82 and 78, and his 160 total is tied for 36th
place. One shot back is Travis Ramsey, tied for 39th place with
76-85--161. Sam Schrock is the fifth Golden Eagle, finishing with
rounds of 83 and 81 and a 36-hole total of 164 for 47th place.
Jacksonville State, playing on its home course, had rounds of 290
and 305 for a 595 first-day total, and owns a nine-stroke lead over
Eastern Kentucky (604). Lipscmb (613) is a distant third, followed
by Morehead State (618), George Washington (620), Our Lady of the
Lake (622), UT Martin (624), Tennessee State (625) and Tech
(626).
The final 18 holes are scheduled for Tuesday morning at Silver
Lakes Golf Course and final results will be posted on TTUsports.com
as soon as they become available.
