OLD HICKORY, Tenn. -- Sophomore Mason Griffin shot rounds of 72 and 70 Monday and is tied for fourth place on the individual leaderboard, helping the Tennessee Tech men's golf team settle into second place following the first two rounds of the Big Blue Intercollegiate hosted by Tennessee State.

Fellow Ohio Valley Conference foe Murray State combined rounds of 281 and 282 to grab the team lead with a 36-hole total of 563. The Golden Eagles opened Monday with a 287 and improved five shots to a 282 in the second round, finishing the day with a 569 total.

That gives coach Polk Brown's squad an eight-shot edge over IPFW (577) in third place, with Southern Illinois (580) and UT Martin (581) rounding out the Top Five.

The second five includes North Dakota (582), Eastern Illinois (585), Morehead State (585), Tennessee State (588) and Trevecca Nazarene (593).

Christopher Schwartz of UT Martin leads all players with a 71-67--138, but his score isn't helping the Skyhawks since he's entered as an individiual.

In addition to Griffin's first day success, Travis Ramsey is also holding a Top 10 position heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. Ramsey shot 70-73--143 and is tied for eighth place.

The balance of the Tech lineup includes Greg Kitts (tied for 14th place/75-69--144), Sam Schrock (tied for 18th/70-75--145) and Lee Maxwell (tied for 26th place/76-70--146).
